Farm Animal Care Internship

Location: Long Grove Country School
Position Type: Animal Care & – Part-time Internship. This position is at a school. There is no option for room and board. It is more suitable for local candidates.

The primary responsibility is taking care of the animals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. They need care in the morning and evening. This position can be split between 2 people or one person could do both. This could last from August – May or just for the semester. There is some flexibility for the right person. Opportunity to pick up additional hours if desired.

About the Role

Long Grove Country School is seeking an Animal Care Intern who enjoys working with animals and spending time outdoors. Our campus includes farm animals that are part of the children’s daily learning experience. This internship provides hands-on experience in animal care, enclosure maintenance, and animal stewardship in an educational setting. Animals include horse, pony, donkeys, goats, chickens, and rabbits.

This position is ideal for students studying animal science, veterinary science, agriculture, biology, or environmental education.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Feeding and watering farm animals
  • Cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures
  • Assisting with basic animal health observation and reporting concerns
  • Helping maintain safe and clean animal environments
  • Assisting with minor enclosure repairs or improvements
  • Supporting staff with animal-related student activities
  • Helping ensure animals are safely integrated into the school environment

Qualifications

  • Interest in animal care or agriculture
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather
  • Reliable and able to work independently
  • Comfortable working in a school environment with children present
  • Ability to perform light physical work
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Experience with farm animals including equine is a plus
