Summer Social Skills Intern

JASE is seeking a passionate, energetic, and compassionate Summer Social Skills Intern to support our social development and enrichment programs for children ages 3–10.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing careers in:

  • Psychology
  • Education
  • Special Education
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Child Development
  • Social Work
  • Behavioral Science
  • Recreational Therapy

Interns will gain hands-on experience working in an inclusive, sensory-friendly environment supporting children with varying social, communication, and developmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with social skills groups and structured activities
  • Support children during sensory play and movement-based learning
  • Encourage peer interaction and cooperative play
  • Help facilitate games, crafts, and group activities
  • Assist staff with classroom setup and transitions
  • Observe and document child engagement and participation
  • Support positive behavior strategies and emotional regulation
  • Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program
  • Interest in working with children
  • Patient, reliable, creative, and team-oriented
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with children is preferred but not required
  • Interest in autism, sensory integration, or child development is a plus

Job counts include both employed and self-employed persons, and do not distinguish between full- and part-time jobs. Sources include Emsi industry data, staffing patterns, and OES data.

    Education Levels

    Annual Earnings

    Earnings figures are based on OES data from the BLS and include base rate, cost of living allowances, guaranteed pay, hazardous-duty pay, incentive pay (including commissions and bonuses), on-call pay, and tips.
