A Project Engineer Intern at Herrero Builders supports the project team in managing the day-to-day operations of complex construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. Interns gain hands-on experience by assisting with submittals, requests for information (RFIs), document control, scheduling, meeting coordination, and field-to-office communication. Working alongside project managers, superintendents, and trade partners, interns learn Herrero’s collaborative approach to project delivery, including the Herrero Production Unit (HPU) and Value Integration Process (VIP). The internship provides exposure to Lean construction principles, safety practices, virtual design and construction technologies, and cost and schedule management. Through mentorship and practical experience, Project Engineer Interns develop the technical, organizational, and leadership skills necessary to build successful careers in the construction industry.
The main responsibilities of an intern include, but not limited to:
- Assist with project documentation and controls, including managing submittals, RFIs, and maintaining accurate project records.
- Support project coordination and communication between project managers, superintendents, trade partners, and design teams.
- Participate in scheduling and planning activities, including tracking progress and assisting with meeting preparation and coordination.
- Learn and apply Herrero’s project delivery processes, such as the Herrero Production Unit (HPU), Value Integration Process (VIP), and Lean construction principles.
- Provide field and office support by assisting with site visits, safety initiatives, cost tracking, and day-to-day project operations.
These responsibilities provide interns with practical experience in construction management while developing the technical, organizational, and leadership skills needed for a future career in the industry.
