Temporary Event Staff: The Schaefer Center (AppSummer)

The purpose of the Event Staff position is to support the mission of the Office of Arts & Cultural Programs by ensuring that patrons receive the assistance and accommodations they need in order to enjoy a safe festival experience.

Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the setup and breakdown of events
- Greeting patrons
- Communicating event policies with patrons
- Selling tickets and operating the Will Call window
- Conducting security checks of bags and items brought into the facility prior to events
- Selling concessions to patrons at events
- Assist Director of Audience Services and Box Office Coordinator as needed
Also, an ideal candidate will have customer service or event experience.
Required qualifications include:
- Genuine commitment to customer service
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and a friendly demeanor
- Close attention to detail
- Effective organizational skills
Nights and weekends availability is necessary.
Length of student’s employment: June 22nd – August 1st.
Shifts range from 2-5 hours, totaling to a max of ~12 hours/week, making this an ideal supplemental job.
Position will earn $12.00 starting.
Graduate students or qualified undergraduate students will be considered. Interest in the arts would be ideal.
While this position is specific to the summer, students may have the opportunity to transition to an academic year position, based on merit.

- Oral & Written Communication – As Event Staff, you will be one of the first people that patrons see upon entering an event, your communication with them is imperative in ensuring that they understand festival policies and safety procedures in order to have an enjoyable festival experience.
- Teamwork & Collaboration – Working in a busy event setting requires collaboration and communication in order to ensure that ticketing and events proceed smoothly.
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving – Event settings can become chaotic, particularly sold-out events, and require quick critical thinking and problem-solving if unforeseen obstacles arise.
