According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Employment in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields (STEM) increased about 13% between 2012 and 2022.
Pursing a degree in the STEM fields, offers diverse opportunity to explore concentrations such as biology, chemistry, geography, physics, astronomy, engineering, and geology; many of these fields offer hands on learning opportunities that lead to hands-on, engaging careers.
Partnering a career in the STEM field with a focus in sustainability refers to a diverse array of professional opportunities that promote an awareness of the byproducts and residual impacts of industrial and economic practices. Sustainable careers maintain a concern for environmental stabilization and preservation; responsible natural resource harvest, use, and management; fair and equitable social, economic, and trade policies; and social justice on macro and micro scales. Sustainability jobs may take the form of jobs in renewable energy and sustainable building development, nonprofit leadership or grant development, community and urban planning, environmental law and policy, food systems management, small-scale agriculture, or local government positions.
Pursing jobs within the science and sustainability industries, is a great way to open avenues for creativity, exploration, and discovery and have a positive impact within the realm of our physical world in order to enhance human existence!
