EDUCATION

A career in education means more than just teaching subjects; it’s about shaping minds and futures and having a significant, lasting impact on individuals and society. There are a lot of routes you can take in the education field:

  • Teaching: From K-12 to higher education, there’s a wide range of levels and subjects to teach.
  • Administration: Roles like principals or academic deans involve managing schools or departments.
  • Specialized Support: Positions such as school counselors, advisors or special education professionals provide crucial support to students.

NONPROFIT

A nonprofit organization is a group that works to benefit the public without trying to make a profit. Nonprofits are often funded by donations and grants, and they reinvest their earnings back into the organization.

“There are more than 40,000 charitable nonprofits operating in North Carolina. They are food banks, museums, senior centers, houses of worship, schools, theaters, research facilities, animal shelters, health clinics, housing assistance centers, transportation providers, and much more.”

SOCIAL IMPACT

A “social impact career” refers to a professional path where the primary focus is on addressing significant social issues like poverty, inequality, environmental sustainability, or human rights, aiming to create positive change in communities through work within non-profits, government agencies, social enterprises, or even for-profit companies with strong corporate social responsibility initiatives; essentially, prioritizing ethical and social goals alongside economic ones.
