Message from the Director

Dear Mountaineers,

Welcome to the start of the Spring 2026 semester! I hope your break was refreshing and that you’re returning with renewed focus and excitement for all the opportunities this term brings. Whether you are continuing in your major or exploring future possibilities, now is a great time to think intentionally about your career goals and professional development.

I want to share a timely article from Inside Higher Ed that highlights important trends shaping higher education and the student experience heading into 2026. The piece summarizes key data points that reflect what many students are feeling and facing — from concerns about the connection between college and career outcomes, to the evolving needs of today’s learner. Notably, it reports that more than 80% of students rate their college education positively, but also highlights that 87% of Gen Z students say they feel unprepared for success in the workforce because of limited guidance and unclear career pathways
